Glastonbury 2024 to feature over 52% female and non-binary acts

The most diverse Glastonbury lineup ever announces 13.6% more female or non-binary artists than Coachella 2024.

Following Glastonbury 2024's first lineup announcement, global music distribution & artist services company Ditto Music has released comparisons between the Glastonbury and Coachella 2024 festivals.

After previous scrutiny around diversity and a 50/50 gender split in 2023, 13.6% more female and non-binary artists are set to perform at Glastonbury 2024 than at American competitor Coachella, whose 2024 lineup only contains 39% female or non-binary acts.

According to estimated growth over the last 10 lineups, Glastonbury is well on course to record its most diverse full lineup yet, listing Dua Lipa, SZA, and Shania Twain as 2024 headline acts.

Both Glastonbury and Coachella have also raised ticket prices for 2024. Despite the all-time high £360 (including £5 booking fee) price tag, Glastonbury general admission tickets sold out in under an hour, whereas Coachella’s $499 fee has led to the Californian festival seeing its lowest ticket sales in 10 years.

Although the 11% rise in ticket price may have put many festival-goers off, it is estimated that Coachella will generate over $1.5 billion in revenue for the local Californian economy, with much of that coming from these increased ticket prices, merchandise, and sponsorships. Glastonbury also contributes significantly to the local area and the UK music industry, generating well over £100 million for the South West of England every year.

Ditto’s research also found that only 4 (4.2% of total lineup) artists announced on the initial Glastonbury 2024 lineup have less than 100,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, compared to 7 (4.8% of total lineup) on the bill at Coachella - suggesting that Coachella is potentially a better festival for launching the careers of smaller, independent artists.

Any musicians looking to pay for a Glastonbury 2024 ticket using their Spotify royalties will need to have accrued roughly 105,750 streams on the platform - approximately 8,500 less than you’d need to pay off a Coachella 2024 ticket.
