Only 10% of music-makers would listen to AI-generated music
The vast majority of musicians say they’d actively avoid AI-made tracks.

A new survey by global music distribution & artist services company Ditto Music has revealed that only 1 in 10 independent musicians would actively choose to listen to songs created entirely by artificial intelligence, with most artists still favouring human creativity over machine-made music.
The independent study, conducted with over 2,000 artists and music professionals from Ditto’s global music community, suggests that the surge in AI tracks hasn’t yet converted many music-makers into listeners. This follows recent reports of fully AI-generated band Velvet Sundown surpassing 1 million streams on Spotify.
When asked if they would consider listening to fully AI-generated tracks, only 10% said “definitely yes.” The vast majority (90%) leaned towards “probably no” or “definitely no.” Just under a third of artists (31%) said they’d avoid AI-generated music altogether, even if it was released by their favourite artist.
Ditto Music CEO, Matt Parsons, had this to add on the survey's findings:
“These findings show that while AI is still finding its place in music, there's still potential for the space to grow. As the tech develops, we’ll start to see more creative ways artists can use it to support and enhance what they do. Right now, it’s no surprise that authenticity and human connection still lead the way, but AI definitely has a real role to play in the future of music.”

With major streaming platforms experimenting with AI playlists and some labels already releasing fully AI-produced tracks, the findings suggest a strong preference for human-made music, particularly among those who create it.
As the conversation around AI in music continues to evolve, Ditto Music plans to keep championing real, human artists and offering industry-leading tools that help them stay in control of both their sound and success.
