48% of Artists Use AI to Make Music - Fewer Than in 2023

Despite the rise in AI-generated tracks being uploaded to streaming platforms, fewer real musicians are using AI to create music compared to 2023.

A new artist survey carried out by global music distribution company Ditto Music has found that fewer artists currently use AI in their creative process than in 2023.

The follow-up to Ditto's 2023 survey shows that 48% of artists have used AI in some aspect of their music-making, down from nearly 60% in 2023. This includes tasks such as songwriting, artwork creation, mastering, and general music production.

These findings come shortly after reports of 20,000 bot-generated tracks are being uploaded to streaming services every day, and 10% of consumers saying they use generative AI to create music.

Ditto's survey also found that the main reason artists are steering away from AI in 2025 is the lack of personal creativity it offers, with 42% of respondents citing this as their biggest concern - rising from 23% just two years ago.

“It’s great to see that even with how accessible AI has become, so many artists are sticking to their own creative instincts. AI can be a helpful tool, especially when you hit a creative block, but at the end of the day, it’s the unique voices and visions of our artist community that really makes all the difference."

Lee Parsons, Ditto Music CEO.

Interestingly, of those who currently use AI in their music, only 18% had been using it in 2023, indicating significant growth in AI adoption over the past two years.

Still, despite this increased usage, just 18% of artists now say they would never use AI in their music, down from 29% in 2023, suggesting a growing openness as the technology becomes more accessible.
